Course Offered

AIE Delhi Cantt offers a full time professional pre service teacher education program of the duration of one academic year, after graduation and post graduation studies, leading to a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Degree of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi.

The college has 100 seats for the B.Ed. Course. Seats are allocated to the aspiring dependents of the serving / retired Army personnel from all parts of the country on the basis of their merit in the Combined Written Admission Test (CWAT) to be held on 19 April 2009 at 15 identified Examination Centers in the country.

The B. Ed. programme of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University consists of theory courses and practicum.

Group A: The Foundation Course:

    1. Education in Emerging Indian Society
    2. Psychology of Learner and Teaching Learning Process
    3. System and Issues in Indian Education
    4. Curriculum and Instruction
    5. Computer in Education
       

Group B: The Pedagogical Course:

Group (i): Subject specific Methodology Courses: Any TWO from the following:

  1. Teaching of Hindi
  2. Teaching of English
  3. Teaching of Sanskrit
  4. Teaching of Social Sciences
  5. Teaching of Integrated Sciences
  6. Teaching of Physics
  7. Teaching of Chemistry
  8. Teaching of Mathematics
  9. Teaching of Life Sciences
  10. Teaching of History
  11. Teaching of Political Science
  12. Teaching of Economics
  13. Teaching of Geography
  14. Teaching of Business Studies

Group (ii) Advanced Level Content cum Methodology Courses (Any one of the Advanced level content- cum methodology course from Group B(ii) can be opted by those who possess Masters degree in lieu of any one of the subjects specified in Group B(i) provided there are at least ten students in that subject and / or the college has required facilities for opting for that course without disturbing the basis on which the admissions have been finalized)

Note: The total number of credits for the B. Ed. programme is 58 and a student is required to earn a minimum of 54 credits. Also, a student is required to appear for examination in all the courses.

Programme Transaction

The B.Ed. Program involves lectures, discussions, tutorials, school based experiences, workshop experiences, psychology practical, visual education work, community work and co-curricular activities including physical education. One major component of this programme is Practice Teaching, also called School Life Experience, which is organized in schools that are chosen by the college for the purpose.

The college often organizes seminars, symposia and workshops for academic excellence and encourages participation of its students in cultural activities for a multidimensional growth of their personality. Ample opportunities for working with the community instill a sense of social concern. Co-curricular activities provide opportunities for exposure to a reasonably good dimensions of the Indian socio cultural life. Besides aiming at academic excellence the college attempts to instill social sensitivity and develop cultural affinity in its students.

Educational excursion is organized at least once a year, the expenditure towards which is borne by the students. Picnic is a regular annual feature of the B. Ed. Programme. Subject projects and field trips are arranged periodically for supporting the academics as and when needed.

Timings

The working day timings for students are from 0900 hrs to 1630 hrs. The college functions six days a week. The students are expected to remain on the college campus all through the college working hours. During the Teaching Practice days, all the students are expected to be there in their practice teaching school for the entire duration of the school hours.

Medium

The medium of instruction in AIE, Delhi Cantt is English only.

Attendance

The students are expected to attend the classes and other activities regularly. Under unavoidable circumstances prior permission for leave is essential. Leave applications should be addressed to the Principal after the same have been recommended by the concerned tutor and / or the school supervisor. The university rules require a minimum of 75% attendance in theory, practical, tutorials and other activities.
